Harokopio University of Athens had the honor and pleasure of hosting the 20th Hellenic Data Management Symposium (HDMS 2026), co-organized by our Department of Informatics and Telematics and the Hellenic ACM SIGMOD Chapter.
The Symposium brought together over 100 delegates and prominent personalities of the international scientific community. A particularly special moment was the awarding of the inspirers and founders of HDMS: Yiannis Vassiliou, Yiannis Ioannidis, Timos Sellis and Panos Chrysanthis. The invited speakers and the initiators of the HDMS were offered symbolic commemorative gifts (collector’s coin and personal stamp) with the logo of Harokopio University.
At the same time, the symposium was marked by important scientific moments: the best Greek doctoral dissertation award “The Hellenic ACM SIGMOD Doctoral Dissertation Award” was awarded for the first time, while the proceedings concluded with an immersive panel discussion on “Data Management: the Day After Tomorrow (in Greece/Cyprus and Beyond)”, which piqued the interest of the attendees and sparked a fruitful dialogue on the future of the industry.
Warm thanks are due to the Hellenic Association of Information Technology & Communications Enterprises (SEPE) and our sponsors (COSMOTE TELEKOM, Performance/IBM Platinum Business Partner, Deloitte, Advance Services) for their valuable support.
Harokopio University has proven in practice that it has the people, the infrastructure and the potential to be a constant point of reference for the academic and research community!
