The 3rd Open-Air Cities International Conference “Local and Regional Sustainable Development and Urban Reconstruction” was successfully concluded at Harokopio University of Athens, held on 5–7 December 2025.
The Conference was organized by the Postgraduate Programme “Sustainable Development” of Harokopio University, in collaboration with the Syros Institute and Open-Air Cities.
During the Conference, 203 scientific papers were presented across 28 thematic sessions, focusing on local and regional sustainable development, urban reconstruction, and the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The main objectives of the Conference included enhancing the international outreach of the University, highlighting contemporary research, and fostering synergies among academic and institutional stakeholders. A total of 262 faculty members, professors, and researchers from higher education institutions in Greece and abroad participated, many of whom were distinguished academics with extensive experience in teaching, research, and scholarly activities.
The Conference was honored by the presence of the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Greece, Ms. Marcela Hanusová, emphasizing the international character of the event and the importance of cross-border cooperation in the fields of sustainable development and circular economy.
