A pioneering artificial intelligence solution<\/strong> has been developed by researchers of the computer vision group from the Department of Informatics and Telematics of Harokopio University of Athens, under the leadership of Assistant Professor Georgios Th. Papadopoulos.<\/span><\/h3>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

This cutting-edge technology was created in the context of the European RnD project Ceasefire, aiming to automatically identify firearm security threats during X-ray imaging fast parcel inspection by customs services.<\/p>

The developed solution achieved an outstanding over 97% correct detection performance during the conducted real-world pilot studies in real operational settings.<\/p>

The research team is actively engaged in discussions with the relevant security ecosystem, including Universal Postal Union (UPU), Europol, CEPOL and relevant industry players, so as to further advance the solution developments and to investigate commercial exploitation capabilities.<\/p>
